To whom it may concern
I have known Mrs Butland both personally and professionally for about three years. I have been impressed by the quality of her work. She has an excellent knowledge of many areas of numerical mathematics and couples this with an ability to grasp new concepts and to rationalise her approach to problems. I have seen many examples of her programming work. I was particularly impressed by a graph plotting package which was an excellent and useful application and several numerical routines in which the programming technique employed was of an outstandingly high standard.
Her mathematical knowledge also extends to the field of statistics where she has made useful contributions to the Computing Laboratory’s studies of factor analysis techniques.
Her work at Bradford has been in the department of Electrical Engineering and she has been a computing advisor and monitor to other members of that department. She obviously enjoys this part of her work and has the necessary attributes of a good programming advisor,
I have always found Mrs Butland to be a diligent worker with a cheerful manner and a keen interest in all she does.
